Det. Czartoryski was the youngest of six children from a Maspeth family. He was a member of the NYPD cadet program while studying at St. John’s University. After joining the NYPD in 1988, he served in Queens, in the Narcotics Division and in the Hate Crimes Task Force.
Following 9/11, Czartoyski worked in the public information office where he served as Commissioner Ray Kelly’s liaison to the LGBT community and worked to improve relations between the NYPD and the gay community.
Joining friends and family members at the renaming were Commissioner Kelly, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
