The annual ceremony, hosted by the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce, featured dance and singing performances, a visit from Santa and raffle prizes.
David Daraio, president of the chamber, said all of the businesses on Grand Avenue help sponsor the event every year.
“It means so much to the community,” he said. “We get a great turnout, I think it's better than a lot of neighborhoods.
“It’s because we have that small town feel here in Maspeth,” he added. “This is the perfect event to end the year.”
Daraio said businesses understand that having this event to kick off the holiday season is important for foot traffic in the neighborhood.
“They love it too because at the end of the day, it’s about the neighborhood and all the residents,” he said. “It’s going to be a great night.”
