Dear Editor,

There are other solutions for the MTA instead of asking for an additional $3.9 billion from Washington.

This new bailout request is on top of $3.8 billion emergency funding that Uncle Sam made available on March 25.

The MTA placed its $51 billion 2020-2024 Five Year Capital Plan on hold due to funding assumptions that were never realistic.

It is time for the MTA to match Washington dollar for dollar. Every federal dollar should be matched by a corresponding cut to the $51 billion Capital Plan.

The federal government has a $23 trillion debt. It was previously projected to grow $1 trillion annually until 2030. We just added another $3 trillion on top of that.

Who is going to bail out Washington? Everyone can't continue spending money we don't have. Millions of Americans are making due with significant income loss, the MTA needs to do the same.

Sincerely,

Larry Penner
