An MTA representative provided Community Board 6 members with a brief update on some projects in Forest Hills and Rego Park at the board's meeting last week.

Joe Raskin, assistant director of Government Community Relations, said the MTA is in the process of installing elevators at the 71st Avenue station, and is scheduled to have substantial completion by the end of March.

The MTA also has an agreement in place to make 100 stations fully handicap accessible by 2020.

Board member Chris Collett said because of the large population of seniors in the community, he is very happy about the elevators.

“I think it’s fabulous,” he said. “I’ve been trying get that done for years.”

Raskin said because of the extremely frigid temperatures and snow, buses have taken longer to start, have been running late and dangerous road conditions have delayed them as well. He said he appreciates everyone’s patience and they are working hard to make transportation easy and safe.

“It has been a very rough winter for us,” he said.
