LIU Brooklyn wins 13th NEC softball title

Number two seed Quinnipiac struck first, but it was third seed LIU Brooklyn who walked away with the victory and their 13th NEC Softball Championship, posting a 10-5 victory over the Bobcats in Moon Township on Saturday afternoon.

The win gives the Blackbirds an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s World Series.

Cassie Vondrak, named to the All-Tournament, team threw five innings of work in the championship game for a total of 21 innings pitched on the weekend.

LIU senior shortstop and tournament MVP Sterling Hoham hit .545 for the weekend, an average that featured four RBIs, while she posted a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage at short.
