Close to 200 people participated in the first-ever McCarren Park 5K Fun Run/Walk this past Saturday morning.

Hosted by St. Nick's Alliance, School Settlement Association, and NYC Runs. The event began and finished near the intersection of Manhattan Avenue and Bayard Street, with runners completely approximately two loops around the park.

Proceeds from the event will help fund after-school programs run by St. Nick's Alliance and School Settlement Association at neighborhood schools.

First place on the men's side went to 26-year-old Brian Mengeon of Long Island City, who finished with a time of 16:45. First place in the Women's field went to Delia Springstubb of Brooklyn, who completed the 5K in 18:42.

Also competing were two of Assemblyman Joseph Lentol's staff members, Eric Radezky and Emily Mijatovic. Lentol sponsored the pair, stating that he hopes the event becomes an annual tradition.

“I am proud to donate to this great cause because our youth is so important,” said Lentol, before joking, “it also helps to keep my staff members in shape!”
