Dear Editor:

City Council Speaker Mellissa Mark-Viverito proposes to decriminalize six low-level offenses, including public urination, public consumption of alcohol, and jumping subway turnstiles.

These broken-windows policies have proven to bring down crime for some of these offenders are wanted or in the process of committing more serious crimes. We need such policies or crime shall reign supreme.

Kudos to NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton for opposing these changes.

Sincerely,

Frederick R. Bedell, Jr.
