We ran this photo we found in our archives a couple of weeks back asking for help identifying the men in the photo, and we quickly got a response that the man on the left was Cliff Wilson, a former assemblyman representing Ridgewood and the surrounding neighborhoods. Today, his old post is held by Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan.

So while we were able to nail down Old Cliff Wilson, we didn't get any information on the other men in the photo.

This week we were roundly chastised by several people, and we deserved it!

A few people sent us stern emails (again, well deserved) taking us to task for not realizing the man on the right side of the photo is none other than Gary Hart. Hart sought the Democratic nomination for president in both 1984 and 1988.

In '84, Hart was a little-known senator from Colorado enjoying his second term when he announced his intent to run against several candidates with better name recognition and longer political careers, namely Walter Mondale, John Glenn and Jesse Jackson.

But Hart started campaigning early, and polled respectfully in the Iowa caucus and then went on to a shocking victory over Mondale by ten percentage points in New Hampshire. Mondale would eventually go on to receive the nomination, but Hart was encouraged.

Hart didn't run for re-election when his second term ended to focus on winning the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988. Quickly rumors began to spread that Hart was a serial womanizer, but even so when Governor Mario Cuomo dropped out of the race, Hart was still considered the clear frontrunner.

But the media kept scrutinizing his personal life, focusing on his relationship with Donna Rice. Hart would eventually suspend his campaign and many consider him to be the first politician to be done in by his sex life, which brings us all the way up to Anthony Weiner (zing!).

Wilson was out of public office by 1985, so we have to guess that this photo was taken during the 1984 presidential campaign.

Thanks to everyone who set us straight!
