Roller Derby came to Brooklyn this past weekend at the Schwartz Athletic Center on the Long Island University campus.

A full house watched as the Manhattan Mayhem defeated The Bronx Gridlock 156 to 147 in a close match that saw the Gridlock within striking distance the entire time. Em Dash was named most valuable player for the Mayhem, while Luna Impact was crowned Gridlock MVP.

The Gridlock this season are facing the loss of five players from last year. The Mayhem also lost players as they rebuild their team this year.

Brazilian Nut from the Queens of Pain said “that it would be a good year for the league because the teams are very even,” and predicted the Queens of Pain would win this year.

Suzy Hotrod and Donna Matrix of the Queens of Pain were also on hand for the match.

The Queens of Pain will be taking on the Gridlock at Hunter College on May 9, and on June 16 the Brooklyn Bombshells will be playing Manhattan, also at Hunter College.

An All-Star Team from Gotham Girls Roller Derby League will play against teams from Los Angeles, Montreal, and others from around the country.
