I could not believe the latest “Eyesore of the Week” which appeared in the November 27, 2008 edition your paper. Quite frankly, I cannot see anything wrong with this picture. Clearly the person, who took this photo, does not understand Glendale or the residents who live here. Glendale has always been a community of European immigrants who took pride in their way of life and have passed their way of life to their children and their children’s children.
The six family homes that are shown in this photo are at least 80 years old and the clothes poles are original to the houses. Generations of Glendale residents have hung their laundry on these clothing lines and I am proud to say that it is still very much a custom that many people still follow. Anyone that would find clean laundry hanging on a line “too close and personal” must not be watching the latest music video, T.V. or current movie. In addition, drying laundry by air is a very environmentally responsible and green thing to do. I think that there are many more areas of Glendale that we should be ashamed of rather than the airing of our clean laundry.
