Through his uncle he was able to purchase his own locksmith shop, Joseph Lock & Alarm in 1974. Corsini has been in the business for 35 years and is a New York State-licensed locksmith.
After opening the store, he took his brother Joseph on as a partner. Corsini used to perform all the manual work, such as installing locks, while his brother Joe stayed in the store and handled the business side of things.
Gradually, as the years have gone on, the needs of his clients have changed. “Security wasn’t as much of an issue then as it is today,” said Corsini, “basically I’m self taught. I grew up in the trade.”
Today, Corsini is the sole owner of Joseph Lock & Alarm and handles all the business, while his three employees go out on jobs every day. Because of his prior experience he’s able to help his workers while they’re out in the field.
“I’m able to help the guys when they run into problems,” said Corsini. “I also know how long jobs should take.”
His clientele is also extremely loyal; many of his customers have been doing business with him since he opened in the 70s.
“Sometimes you need to be compassionate,” said Corsini. “You might be dealing with someone who just had priceless heirlooms stolen, so you’re dealing with what they’re feeling.”
Corsini values his customers and really feels like he helps people when they’re in a crisis. He develops lasting relationships with those he helps. “When they take my advice and ten years down the line they tell me they were never broken into again, you know you helped them,” he said.
