We know, the NCAA tournament is great and all, but without St. John’s and the CHSAA, you’re feeling pretty lost. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of sports goodness to watch this week.
Thursday 7:30PM Club Amazura- Jamaica: Daily News Golden Gloves Semi-Finals
If you’ve been following us the past few weeks, then you know how much fun a night of boxing is. The Golden Gloves have been a hit (pun intended), and this week they’ll be in Jamaica for the semi-finals. If you get close seats, try not to wince with each hit.
Friday: 7:00PM- YES- Lakers at Nets
Vince Carter’s team seems better equipped than the Knicks to make a push for that final playoff push, but the real reason we’re suggesting this game is because Kobe Bryant is must-see TV. Here’s hoping that he and Vince Carter engage in a game of “Can-you-top-this”
7:30PM MSG- Hornets at Knicks
Yes, we know the Knicks are in their annual end-of-season tailspin to oblivion, but this year, thanks to D’Antoni and Walsh, there’s none of that awful sour taste that he been so prevalent the past few years Anyway, at 3 games back of the final spot, they’ll need all the wins they can get, starting with Friday night’s tangle with Chris Paul and the up-and-down Hornets.
Saturday: 1:00PM-CBS NCAA Division II Championship game
Sure, it’s been fun watching the boys in Division I get all the glory, but D2 holds it’s own special charm, and Saturday’s title game will be the icing on the cake. Look to see if Long Island’s C.W. Post can make it to the title game, and always remember: the game is never over until the horn. (You do remember Barton’s buzzer beating victory over Winona State two years ago, don’t you?)
Sunday 1:10PM College Baseball: Georgetown at St. John’s
Now, it’s usually hard to get people to watch college baseball before the teams head to Omaha, but on Sunday, the venue will be the focus. That’s because on Sunday, the Red Storm and Hoyas will christen CitiField, the Mets’ new home, with a regular season tilt. Now, maybe you were priced out Mets tickets, but we’re sure this is an opportunity you’re not going to want to miss!
All Day, CBS : NCAA Division I Elite Eight
Yeah, our bracket is looking pretty mangled too, right now, but that’s ok, the elite eight is always where the cream rises to the top. And for the record, we’re standing by our final four prediction: Louisville, Pitt, Carolina, and Memphis- Chalk it up!
