Concert promoters were recently able to reach a long-term deal with the West Side Tennis Club which will allow fans of music to attend the Forest Hills performances of musicians such as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The xx, Jack Johnson, My Morning Jacket and The Chainsmokers.
The series, which begins on May 19th with The xx, is far from completed, according to organizers. In fact, indie rock band The National was just added for an October performance.
Mike Luba, partner of Madison House Presents, the promoter that books and produces concerts at the venue and the executive responsible for stadium’s rehabilitation, said he was proud of what the group collaboration has been able to pull off since reopening in 2013.
“From the West Side Tennis Club and the Forest Hills community who did everything they could to save this historic gem, to the musicians and performers who saw this stadium for what it could be, to the fans that have spread the word about this special place…we’re here today celebrating the future because of them,” Luba said.
This year, concert goers will see a new concourse design featuring a spacious grass area to unwind during sets as well as a space with curated local food and drink vendors.
For those interested in a more exclusive experience, organizers have added five more hidden VIP lounges in the stadium for a total of nine unique rooms.
Forest Hills Stadium will also partner with radio station WFUV to create a special on site experience for fans.
The station will have its dedicated space known as the FUV Clubhouse at Forest Hills Stadium, and will also broadcast select shows in their entirety live on the air, beginning with The xx on May 19. Other partners to the stadium include Heineken and Bulova.
“The revitalization of Forest Hills Stadium has been a wonderful addition to our neighborhood,” said Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi. “The renewed interest in the stadium has created another, exciting attraction in our borough."
"I’m thrilled that the stadium will be here to entertain our community for a long time to come,” Hevesi added.
