Calamia,Charles, 96 of East Montpelier passed away peacefully on September 14 at his home. Born in Brooklyn NY in 1916 on January 26th or February 26th or February 27th (we were never sure), he was the son of Giacomo and Dorotea (D’Antoni). He attended Grover Cleveland High School in NY. On September 9th, 1945 he married the love of his life, Angela Cassara. They raised four children. They all moved to Glendale, NY in 1967 where he and Angela lived for over 40 years. He was employed in the shoe industry for most of his working life and retired at age 58. In retirement he and his wife did some traveling and later they spent much of the day at the Senior Center in Middle Village NY. He enjoyed playing poker with the guys and played the lottery almost daily. 486 was one of his favorite numbers. He was an avid NY Mets fan. His wife passed in 2008 and he moved to Vermont to live with his daughter and son-in-law. He attended Project Independence in Barre VT, enjoying bingo, cards, and their excellent musical entertainment. He is survived by his son, Vito Calamia, and daughter-in-law, JoAnne Calamia of Merrick NY; his daughter, Maria Calamia and son-in-law, William Kelly of East Montpelier VT; four granddaughters, Erin Kelly, Rae Kelly, Lauren Calamia, and Michelle Calamia; a great-granddaughter, Gwendolyn Winans; two very attentive caregivers of the past four years, Barbara and Renee; and his dog, Nadja. He was predeceased by his wife, Angela, and two sons, Jack and Joseph.
