Community Board 5 will hold its annual Capital and Expense Budget hearing on Wednesday, September 9, one District Manager Gary Giordano said is among the most important meetings all year.

The meeting and public hearing, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will be held at Christ the King Regional High School in the CNL Room on the 3rd Floor, Door 10, of Christ the King High School, located at 68-02 Metropolitan Avenue in Middle Village.

The budget hearing will give residents and business owners a chance to voice concerns about the district, and call for improvements to the communities of Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village, and Glendale.

Giordano said a capital budget request might be, for example, to reconstruct a particular sewer line, park, or roadway. These items can cost hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.

An example of an expense budget request would be the need for more police officers, library services, after-school youth programs, or senior services, among others.

Speakers for the hearing are asked to register in advance by calling the Board 5 Office during normal business hours, at (718) 366-1834.

Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes each. They are advised to submit typed testimony on 8 ½ by 11 inch paper.

A public forum, committee reports, and a review of current liquor, wine and beer license applications will follow the budget hearing. For additional information, please call the Board 5 office at (718) 366-1834.
