New Yorkers voted to re-elect Mayor Michael Bloomberg on November 3, proving they care more for his record than his controversial term limits extension.
Bloomberg, running as a Republican, won with 50.6 percent of the vote. His opponent, City Comptroller William Thompson, a Democrat, captured 46 percent of vote. The less-than five-point margin was a far cry from election-day polls, which predicted a double-digit Bloomberg win.
The mayor spent millions of his own money to secure re-election; the final number is expected to exceed $100 million, a new record for a municipal election.
