This week we received a couple more responses from readers helping us fill in a few more clues.
The first came from Mary Parisen, who informed us that the gentleman third from the right with dark hair is Charles Gargano.
Under the Reagan administration, he served as ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago. Later, he would head the Empire State Development Corporation under Governor George Pataki.
Some other notable positions he has held include deputy administrator of the Federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration and a commissioner on the board of the Port Authority.
The photo looks like it could have come from a groundbreaking ceremony, and perhaps Gargano is there because the project received funds from the Empire State Development Corporation.
In fact, the other response we received last week came from eagle-eyed reader Lois Skaretka, who was able to decipher what the spade that Emanuel Gold is holding has inscribed on it.
It says “Forest Hills Restoration Ground Breaking Ceremony May 1, 1987.” Or perhaps 1997, the date is hard to make out, she wrote.
Thanks for the information, and if anyone has any information on the “Forest Hills Restoration” project, specifically what was being restored, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
