The 112th Precinct in Forest Hills celebrated National Night Out Against Crime last week with community members from Forest Hills and Rego Park.

The annual event aims to strengthen police-community relations. Participants in the event included local businesses, volunteer and civic groups, and elected officials.

“Community participation is essential to our fight against crime in Forest Hills and Rego Park,” said Deputy Inspector Robert Ramos. “As a result, in our joint efforts and strong support from the community, there has been a reduction in crime for the past year.”

In addition to receiving public safety information, residents were treated to barbecue, kosher food, live entertainment from The Kew Gardens Community Center Dancing Veils and SGI USA, a West Side Tennis Club tennis demonstration, and children’s games.

The 112th Precinct Community Council also received donations from businesses and organizations such as West Side Tennis Club, Maspeth Federal Bank, Target, Natural Market, Vitello’s Marketplace, Forest Hills Van Court Association, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Rego Park Forest Hills Lions Club, Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce and Shop and Stop.

“It’s important to interact with the community and learn about the impact we can have on the world,” said a member of the 112th Precinct Explorers program for teenagers. “It’s good to give back, especially to the NYPD who have done so much for us.”
