ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — The father of a 3-year-old Syrian boy photographed lying dead on a Turkish beach has described how their overloaded boat flipped over in the sea and he quickly realized his two sons and his wife had drowned.
The euro fell on Thursday on a darkening euro zone outlook, while global stock markets rallied as the European Central Bank chief pledged to beef up or prolong the bank's economic stimulus if necessary. The US economy's service sector growth eased back in August from July's fast pace, with employment, export orders and prices declining, the Institute for Supply Management said Thursday. The ISM non-manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) fell to 59.0 in August from the July surge to 60.3. The service sector, which accounts for roughly 80 percent of US economic activity, continues to show strength after 67 months of expansion, the ISM said.
