The eruption of Wolf Volcano on Isabela Island in the Galapagos on May 25, 2015A volcano in the Galapagos Islands erupted for the first time in more than 30 years Monday, spilling streams of bright orange lava and raising fears for the world's only colony of pink iguanas. The Galapagos National Park warned on Twitter that Isabela Island, where Wolf Volcano erupted at dawn, holds "the world's only population" of the critically endangered Conolophus marthae, also known as the Galapagos rosy iguana. Park officials then flew over the zone to assess the impact of the eruption.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.5 percent, after eking out a late gain in the previous session. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 1.5 percent, flirting with seven-year highs, on expectations of more money inflows from the mainland following Beijing's fresh moves to expedite cross-border investment.

The savage twister roared through the Mexican border town of Ciudad Acuna at dawn, tossing cars and big rig trucks into the air before they smashed into houses and buildings. The tornado came as ferocious weather battered swathes of Mexico and the southern United States, where rescuers hunted for 12 people missing in flash floods across Texas and Oklahoma that left three people dead.
