With six different banks already occupying Grand Avenue in Maspeth, Amalgamated Bank has plans in place to become the seventh.
According to state Banking Department records, Amalgamated Bank received approval to begin construction work at its newest branch at 69-73 Grand Avenue on February 5 of this year.
The building at that location has been vacant since Comprehensive Health Care of Maspeth left the space over a year ago. While contractors have been hired and some work appears to be underway, no completion date has been set.
Representatives from Amalgamated Bank did not return calls for comment on the story, but David Daraio, director of marketing at Maspeth Federal Savings, confirmed Amalgamated’s plans.
Maspeth Federal Savings Bank, a staple in the community since 1947, has seen its fair share of banks come and go. Daraio said he does not anticipate any change in the way Maspeth Federal runs their business.
“We’re the same community bank we’ve always been,” Daraio said. “We are going to continue to service the community the best way that we can.”
Amalgamated Bank is a nationwide Labor Union bank, headquartered in Manhattan. The bank has branches in every borough throughout the city. This will be the fourth location in Queens.
