All of the traditional rides, attractions, foods and temptations made their annual showing at the carnival, including funnel cakes, deep friend Oreos, corn dogs, penny prizes, ring tosses, gold fish, and rides to spin, toss and drop carnival goers of all ages to their hearts’ content.
To close the carnival, which ran from June 26-30, CALDC hosted the 2014 Independence Celebration fireworks show on the park’s recently-manicured great lawn located between the Hell Gate Bridge and the pool. The Queens Symphony Orchestra performed, and the legendary Grucci orchestrated the fireworks show.
George Stamatiades, president of CALDC, thanked the Parks Department for their dedicated effort in preparation for the celebration.
“Astoria Park is a jewel thanks to the efforts of the hard-working men and women of the Parks Department here in Astoria Park,” said Stamatiades.
