For many, the best of summer is over, with all future sun-filled activities sure to fail in measuring up to the bopping, belting performance Janelle Monae delivered at last week’s kick off of Celebrate Brooklyn!

Thousands filed into Prospect Park and filled in around the bandshell to watch the Electric Lady do what she does best, entrancing everyone with her powerful vocals and impressive, unhinged dancing.

The R&B/soul/pop/funk artist seems to have as much fun on stage as her audience does watching her. From the beginning of her set to the end of the night, she had the entire crowd on their feet and dancing along with her.

“The show was a great success!” said executive producer of Celebrate Brooklyn! Jack Walsh. “Our gala went a long way to raise the funds necessary to maintain Celebrate Brooklyn!'s distinctive free programming, and Janelle's fans came out in full force, bringing the high energy and eclectic style that defined the evening.”

That was most certainly true, with fans waiting in line for hours to get into the free 8 p.m. show (if they got in at all), and many sitting outside of the fence and listening to the performance from the park.

Even Mayor Bill de Blasio made it out for the concert with his son, Dante, and wife Chirlane McCray.

Monae performed a collection of songs from her three albums, and even included a Jackson 5 medley that got the crowd singing along.

A true performer, Monae had the audience involved in her set throughout the evening. At one point, she was on the ground in front of the drum set, and the only way to get her back up was for her fans to cheer and applaud.

She even had an audience member come up on stage for a dance-off.

“This was Celebrate Brooklyn!'s best opening yet, and we look forward to what's sure to be our best season yet,” Walsh said.
