The Forest Hills community came out in force to celebrate local business and summer fun at the Forest Hills Festival of the Arts that spanned several blocks from noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival, sponsored by the Forest Hills Chamber of Commerce, included the usual accompaniment of fresh-squeezed lemonade, roasted corn, meat on a stick and other food vendors, as well as a full complement of handmade jewelry, clothing, art and other wares one would expect from a full-scale street fair.

The atmosphere of the festival was one of child-like abandon, and during the Soul Messengers’ live music set on the 70th Avenue main stage, even wheelchair-toting seniors were rising up out of their seats to shimmy to the beat.

Other activities included on-the-spot yoga and martial arts demonstrations by local fitness establishments like Bamboo Moves and the International Karate Center, both of which are located on Queens Boulevard.

Of course, there was plenty of kid-oriented entertainment as well, with multiple balloon twisters, face painters and bouncy houses onsite. And that’s not to mention all the caramel apples, candied marshmallows and deep friend Oreos to be had along the street.
