Summer officially begins on June 21, and Atlantic Avenue will be welcoming the season in style with their first ever “Summer Celebration.”

The celebration, co-hosted by the Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) and Make Music New York, will run along Atlantic Avenue from the East River to Flatbush Avenue. There will be live music, sidewalk sales, wine tastings and a World Cup pub crawl and viewing party.

“It’s been a long cold winter, and I think everyone is ready to get out of the house and have a little fun,” Josef Szende, executive director of the Atlantic Avenue BID, said. “That’s why we’re teaming up with our local merchants and Make Music New York to celebrate the start of summer.

“I can't think of a better way to do that than listening to some great live music, watching some world class soccer, and spending time on one of the most vibrant streets in New York City," he added.

Upper90, the city’s largest soccer merchandise retailer, will host visitors for a World Cup viewing party at their Brooklyn headquarters on Atlantic Avenue.

The live music will feature artists of all genres, ranging from bluegrass to hip-hop to Latin pop. Thirty-six performers will play live at 12 venues.

Make Music New York (MMNY) is organizing the musicians as part of their larger event. Make Music New York is a festival of over 1,000 free outdoor concerts throughout the five boroughs, all happening on June 21.

Over 726 cities around the world participate simultaneously, making MMNY a truly global celebration of music.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday and run until 10 p.m. Participating bars will open with their specials starting at noon and running until 10 p.m.
