Our GWDC is “Small Town” Annual Memorial Day Observance, is Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Forest Parkway Plaza at Forest Parkway and Jamaica Avenue. At this observance we will place our new wreath at the World War II Memorial and hold a remembrance to those lost in defense of our country from our Woodhaven community.
Queensway or reactivation? It has been 20 years or more since the discussion on the use of this Rockaway Beach Rail Line, and since then a new proposed use has been presented. The conversion of this property, especially the portion in Woodhaven on 98th Street, should be made parkland and the rails removed.
In this way Woodhaven would be out of the equation and the two remaining parts of this railway can be used in the way that is determined by their abutting communities. Think about it, it can be done

The GWDC-sponsored Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival 2014 will take place on Sunday, October 19, from noon to 6 p.m. on Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue from 80th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard.
Now to our big event! On Friday, June 6, the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation will hold its “Spring is Here” 35th Anniversary Dinner Dance. This year to be held again at the beautiful Woodhaven Manor Caterers at 96-01 Jamaica Avenue. In line with this, the ladies are encouraged to wear warm spring colors.
Our 2014 Honorees are Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez as “Woman of the Year 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for her concerned efforts in supporting the Woodhaven Business Improvement District’s small business and store owners.
Mathew Xenakis, president of the Woodhaven Business Improvement District, is “Man of the Year 2014” in recognitionof his concerted effort, support and friendship to the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation.
Deputy Inspector Henry Sautner, commanding officer of the 102nd Precinct, will be given the “Award of Distinction 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for his work at the 102nd Precinct. His continued support of the GWDC has contributed to making Woodhaven “A Haven In The City.”
George Smith gets the “Honorary Woodhavenite Award 2014” in recognition and sincere appreciation for his many years as a dedicated businessman assisting the Wonderful Woodhaven Street festivals the past 22 years. Although not a Woodhaven resident, he has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to our Woodhaven community.
State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo and Assemblyman Michael G. Miller will be given “Awards of Appreciation 2014” in sincere appreciation of their support and friendship to the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation.
