Initiating a summer full of family- and youth-oriented programming, the Greenpoint YMCA shut down Meserole Avenue from Manhattan Avenue to Lorimer Street.

Angela Speakman, the facility’s youth and family director was especially happy with the performance by the Bilingual Birdies, a family-friendly band that also teaches language classes for the YMCA.

“They teach classes in Hebrew, French, Spanish and Mandarin,” Speakman said. “They do a lot of great things around the neighborhood.”

Jan Kubacki, 7, made his rounds and reported in after getting a YMCA-styled “Y” painted on his face.

“I played the soccer game, and two times I went through the volcano [bouncy house]. It was a lot of fun,” Kubacki said. “I haven’t been to the Y in a long tme, but I think now I am going to come back.”
