In recognition of their outstanding play for the St. Joseph’s College men’s and women’s basketball teams, Michael Megafu (Brooklyn/Nazareth Regional) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) men’s basketball Player of the Week, and senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale/Mary Louis) has been named the AD3I women’s basketball Player of the Week.

Megafu led the Bears to a 1-1 record at the University of Dallas Classic, averaging a double-double for the week. Against the University of Dallas, he finished with a team- and season-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field while corralling 15 rebounds.

The sophomore concluded his week with a 16-point, five-rebound effort against Austin College, shooting an efficient 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the floor.

For the week, Megafu stuffed the stat sheet, averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, while shooting 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the field over the two-game stretch.

Megafu takes home the AD3I honor for the third time in his career and USCAA accolade for the second time in his career.

McNamee was the leader of a St. Joseph’s team that moved over .500 for the first time this season, posting a 3-0 mark for the week. The senior guard opened her week with a 15-point effort at Medgar Evers, finishing 7-of-9 from the field with two boards and three steals.

McNamee stepped up her play at the Cedar Crest College Tournament, as she was named tournament MVP after St. Joseph’s defeated both Lehman and NYU-Poly to take home the title.

Against Lehman, McNamee finished with a career-high-tying 21 points, connecting on 5-of-8 shots from the field while going a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. The senior helped the Lady Bears clinch the tournament title with 11 points and four rebounds along with two steals in the championship game versus NYU-Poly.

McNamee finished the week averaging 15.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. The senior shot 57.1 percent from the field (16-of-28), including 40 percent (4-of-10) from beyond the arc and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the line.

McNamee earns the AD3I Player of the Week award for the first time in her career and receives the second weekly award by a Lady Bear this season following junior Samantha Retas (Brooklyn/Bishop Kearney), who was named USCAA Player of the Week earlier this season.
