Grass Court Championships wrap up at West Side

The West Side Tennis Club hosted the USTA National Men’s 40’s and 60’s Grass Court Championship last week.

In the 40’s singles competition, top-seeded Rick Witsken of Zionsville, Indiana, defeated#9 seed Juan Rios of Mamaroneck, New York, after Rios was forced to quit the match in the second set due to an injury.

In the 40’s doubles competition, the duo of Mark Harrison of Melbourne, Florida, and Juan Parker of Long Island City defeated Neal Grover of Laguna Beach, California, and Arthur Hernandez of Huntington Beach, California, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

In the 60’s singles competition, top-seeded Geoff Cykman of San Francisco defeated #2 seed Tom Smith of Alpharetta, Georgia, 6-3, 6-4.

In the 60’s doubles competition, the second-seeded team of Mark Harrison of East Rockaway and Smith beat Cykman and James Malhame of Douglaston, 6-4, 6-3.
