A recent sexual attack in Forest Park has now been linked to at least five other similar attacks, leading residents to call for more security in the park.

Authorities have connected the suspect in the August 26th attack of a 69-year-old woman who was stunned with a taser gun and then raped to five other incidents of either forcible touching or attempted rape between March 25, 2011, and March 29 of this year. In the last incident, a taser gun was also used.

The NYPD announced it will respond to the most recent attack with increased patrols in the park. Police set up a command post near the site of the attack on Park Lane South and handed out the most recent sketch of the suspect.

After the March 2013 attack, the 102nd Precinct announced the assignment of two permanent officers to monitor the 550-acre area, mostly during the daytime hours.

Some residents, though, are pushing for the park, which is known for its secluded paths, to have its own permanent precinct to protect joggers and other, much like the precinct in Central Park.

Community Board 9 passed a resolution in favor of the precinct, and called for the restoration of the mounted police unit that used to be stationed in the park, but was removed more than a decade ago.

Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, a frequent jogger in the park, recently called the precinct "an idea worth exploring," and also wrote a letter last April to Commissioner Ray Kelly asking him to restore the mounted police unit, "with the option of it being stationed in Forest Park."

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to call the CrimeStoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS. A reward of $22,000 is being offered.
